You obviously do need a moderator to keep a check on any crap and determine rules/norms ..obviously I'm not involved in the day to day running/membership of the club but you need some sort of an agreement terms of participation so that people don't start using it for their own personal agendas
G'day guys, nice to see the CPCC finally implement another of my many hair-brained ideas.
How's the tour numbers looking at present ?? With just over 9 months left to make it all happen, I hope all of the guys who have made some sort of commitment to the tour follow through.
Forgot to mention, you had better get that banner on the homepage of the site changed. Seeing as the club isn't going to buy the rest of the graphics package from the web designer, he has emailed me asking to get it removed as it is still his intellectual property and it is being used without his permission.
Don,t want to be anonymous but it won't let me join. Anyway. Good to see your on board. Looking forward to meeting you all @ Clay Cross (Yes Mr Bhatt has re signed for next year) Your right Aussie ICC victory (good to see you have a Care In The Community scheme in Aus as well rather than fill the mental homes)we don't seem popular at the moment but you know us Brits we love a loser which means we hate winners & this year we've been winners. See you next year Chief Clay Cross Cricket Club
Hey Chief Only a few here would have any idea would have any idea about where Clay Cross is and its claim to fame (does it have any?)What about the tourist attractions?
Give us some background on the place and club...tell us about how your indian first class player won you a premiership.See if you can get some of these tourists back on your site.
Next thing they'll be asking why we are going there anyway.
Pete...you should know the favourite for the "50 not out" tour song is a revamp of "c'mon on aussie,c'mon".. ..c'mon plateau,c'mon...Henriksen's swatting tons"...
I play for Edwinstowe CC from Nottinghamshire. Looking forward to seeing you all over in England next year. Just thought I'd come on here to give you a bit of information about Edwinstowe.
Firstly our cricket club, at the time of writing we play in Bassetlaw Division 1, although this could change with our last game of the season being played tomorrow in which we must win! Its not looking good and we are odds on to go down to Div 2. The Bassetlaw Div 1 league is one step below the Nottinghamshire Premier League, and the next step up for that is Nottinghamshire County CC.
Our 2nds play in Division 5 of the Bassetlaw League and have comfortably finished mid-table - again!!
Our ground is situated more or less in Sherwood Forest and is one of the more picturesque grounds in Nottinghamshire. We had a new pavillion built over the winter last year so now we have a bar too (got to get your priorities right!!)
Edwinstowe as a village is a tourist hotspot, with tourists from all over the world visiting, especially during June, July & August. This is because we are within a stones throw of the Major Oak & The Sherwood Forest Visitors Centre. Sherwood Forest is famous because of the legend of Robin Hood - who nobody knows for sure existed, but is famous enough to have a few films made about him. Also he (apparently) got married to Maid Marion in our local church.
Nottinghamshire & Yorkshire is/was famous for coal mining, in Nottinghamshire alone, there used to be over 50 mines. Now that figure is down to 3, with Thoresby Colliery (in Edwinstowe) being one of the few still open today.
We have plenty of pubs - I think its either 12 or 13 now, which isn't bad for a village with a population of about 5,000-6,000. Most of the other villages around here only have 2 or 3. So you have definitely picked the right place to come!!
Hopefully we won't disgrace ourselves too much in the Ashes next year, but I can't see us beating you - even after the Summer we had this time around.
Maybe when the Ashes are played again in Oz, we could get enough interest out to send a team over there to play you.
Good luck for your season - I understand its starting soon.
a cricket field in sherwood forest sounds tremendous! 12 or 13 pubs sounds equally tremendous! Assuming we can stil all walk after downing a few pints at your new pavillion/bar! better make sure your "boat-racing" team is in good form as well as your cricket team.
Edwinstowe could quickly become the most-looked-forward-to destination on tour! thanks for the info and good luck in holding your spot in Division 1.
Thanks Edwinstowe.. that's a great background for the "robin hood" fixture.I like that logo...have to swap a plateau shirt for one of those.
Talking of the notts/derbys coalfield ...there was a bio of Don Bradman on sydney tv last night.Featured some footage of Harold Larwood bowling to Bradman and knocking down Woodfull and Oldfield. Harold Larwood was one of several great fast bowlers from nottinghamshire who built up their strength in the pit.
Combined with the cunning and ruthlessness of D Jardine he was part of one of the few english teams to win the ashes in australia.
Jardine-Larwood Brown-Tyson Illingworth-Snow Gatting-Small are captain-fast bowler combinations who have done it. Are Vaughan and Harmison in the same class?
Also on the Bradman show was Sam Loxton (1948 ashes tourist) .As it happens he is a client of a CPCC tourist.Hopefully he will be a patron of our "50 not out"tour.
Clay Cross is famous round Notts & Derby as being the coldest place to play cricket!! Even at the height of summer it is always colder than every where else!
Larwood came from Kirkby, about 14 miles from Edwinstowe. There is a pub in Nottingham near to Trent Bridge called the Larwood & Voce.
I'm not sure that Vaughan & Harmison can regain the ashes. I think you have too much quality, but I don't think you'll beat us as heavily as you have over the past 5-10 years.
Our boat race team will be in training especially over the winter, because we'll have to beat you at something, too embarassing otherwise!
Congratulations from Earby CC to all at CPCC on reaching your 50th (well nearly), hope you can celebrate with style - on the cricket field!
Earby - Where's that?
We're a small town (village) in the middle of the countryside about an hour from Manchester in Lancashire and the same distance from Leeds in Yorkshire.
The Red Rose of Lancashire and the White Rose of Yorkshire have been locked in a deadly battle for centuries, (a bit like NSW and Vicoria!) and we are smack on the border. Most of the battles now take place on the cricket field, but they can still get pretty bloody.
We play in the Ribblesdale League which covers the 'border country' and finished joint fifth after a so-so season which has not been helped by a terrible summer (rain, rain and yet more rain). Hopefully it will be all-sunshine for the visit of you guys in 2005.
The 2nd XI saw some really promising young players 13 & 14 years of age making their senior debuts and the junior teams really clicked with the Under-11s and Under-13s winning their divisions.
While you are just starting your season we are settling down ready to go into hibernation.
But first a little more about Earby, a former cotton mill town of about 5,000 people, we are on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and seven miles from the Market Town of Skipton, quaint place with an ancient church and castle at the top of the High Street. I've lost count of the number of pubs and bars - you won't run out! There are even a couple of breweries in the town/nearby which produce lovely 'warm beer'.
To the South is the village of Haworth home of the Bronte sisters (who wrote a book or two, which describe the moorland countryside pretty well), and to the West is the Ribble Valley said to be Tolkien Country - there are no Hobbits running around, but the Lord of the Rings relies heavily on the local geography.
Earby CC? - We pride ourselves on being a local club for local players and are the only club in our league to win a 'Double-Double' with both first and second teams winning their league and cup competitions, but that was back in the early 90's. The team was all local guys apart from an Aussie, John Rainger, who played with Balmain Tigers at the time and now lives down in Tathra, NSW, after marrying one of our 'Fair Maidens.'
Glen Chapple, who plays County Cricket with Lancashire, is one of our Old Boys. He has played for England at every level except 1st XI and had a pretty good tour of Oz with England A a few years ago, but I think he is unlikely to get a call for the Ashes Tests despite having a pretty good season this year.
More importantly his dad, Michael, who was also a good cricketer now puts in a lot of voluntary work looking after our ground.
We're looking forward to your visit and will be starting a few months of pre-tour training - sinking a pint or two.
Whilst us Aussies prefer our beer cold and bubbly i'm sure most will brave a "courage ale" or two and a flat warm bitter straight from the pump! Puts hair on the chest! Having been on a previous tour with the Manly Waratahs i know about both the flat bitters and the wet weather, we missed 3 games staright out at thecottswolds when we toured, but had far better weather in the Surrey and Sussex regions where we played the bulk of our games. Looking forward to seeing some new turf and yes, some sunshine fingers crossed!
We have a myriad of junior sides with one of last season's winning a comp. Our numbers are up to 120 junior players this season, 10 sides in all so we are definitely keeping cricket alive in our area. However you'll get to play against the "more mature" players of the plateau!
enjoy the off-season training! pete
P.S. Jacko, Stop talking up those Poms chances of winning the Ashes mate, they'll start believing it themselves before you know it!
Thanks John...the "pennines" fixture looks a good one.
Do you wear the white rose of york or the red of lancaster?
Bit of a worry to hear its been a wet summer. As they say about old trafford "if you can't see the pennines it is raining, if you can see the pennines it is going to rain"
That being said when I was at old trafford for the ashes test in '97 it was a sunny day.I think it was Micheal Bevan's last test match and steve waugh got double hundreds in the match.
Two other manly waratah's who were there that day will be on our CPCC tour.
Pete...remember where you heard it this will be the closest ashes series since 1972. AND we will be there!
Tourists should be tuned to Fox at 7.00 pm Tuesday for the ICC Trophy semi final...Australia v England.
If Flintoff fires the poms are a chance. He has belted tripe out of the windies and sri lankans. See how he measures up against our attack.
We are planning to be at Headingley,Leeds,Yorkshire on July 7, 2005 to see these teams clash in the ashes year. Reportedly the western stand at headingley isn't a lot different to the hill at the "G".
Don't know if I have already sent something through as this is rather confusing. Sorry, still not that computer literate...
So, a new season has begun for all of you back there in OZ. Mine finished in UK late August, and a good one for me it was again, in the batting stakes that is. My side finished mid table, which compared to last year is a marked improvement.... So, you trip over here is going ahead I see, Excellent news that. Look forward to catching up with some old faces when you arrive. As you already know, it does rain a lot over here in summer so be prepared for some washouts in you schedule, although I never missed a game this season over here due to washout so you never know. Good luck with you season gents and I will see you when you get here. By the way, can someone bring me a couple of cans of Reschs... I miss it dearly !!!
Still have nightmares about that ton you got up at Plateau Park. (maiden centuries for you and Sewell!!!!the nadir of my captaincy career)
Who are you playing cricket with in England? How does the standard compare? What are the "norms" for a friendly? Can you fit 20 people into that London flat? Can you get us tickets for the Lord's test?
Thanks for getting into contact regarding a friendly fixture against Grimsargh Cricket Club, near Preston in Lancashire. We'd be delighted to play you, so pencil us in. You might like to look at our website, wittily entitled -
IF you're looking for other fixtures nearby, try the links to other clubs on our home page. We've got a very attractive ground, and we're near the ribble valley, but we don't actually look over it.
I've played a few seasons in Australian club cricket - for Northbridge C.C. on the north shore and for the Sydney Windies cricket club in the east so I don't really believe that you want 'weak' opposition - if you do though, we're the club to play.
Now thr you lot. You will be delighted to know that Clay Cross have installed extra storage facilities to double the capacity of beer storage just in time for your visit. Our ground is pretty when the sun shines too but bloody ugly when it does'nt. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Cross next year & Johnny Bravo ,our all rounder (can't bat can't bowl, can't field) has already been involved in some lively banter with Jacko on our website. Why not have a look at it & join in the debate on www.claycrosscricketclub.co.uk
All tourists please note there is tour information session at the Brookvale Hotel @ 7.30 pm on Wednesday 10th November.
The aim of this meeting is to brief all tourists on their commitments required to be on that plane on July 1 2005.
Thanks Nick and Graham for your notes. We will be playing Grimsargh out of Manchester and Clay Cross out of Nottingham. Both clubs have forums...one distinctively more polite than the other.
Jacko Are'nt Grimsargh very polite then? At Clay Cross we are always polite. We don't know anything about Grimsargh but I am sure they might present us with a shaft of wit from over the Penines if we ever met them (or something like that) The reason you are playing us is to have a tough game after you have massacred the soft southern chinless public school nancy boys from down south. Oh & some of you want to hurt the mighty Johnny Bravo. Chief
Just noticed that you have arranged a game against Grimsargh CC nr Preston, Lancashire whilst on your tour. Do you need/want another game in the area? Have you already booked somewhere to stay in the area?
I play for Great Eccleston CC which is situated between Preson and Blackpool (the premier seaside resort in the UK - cold, wet, but fantastic nightlife especially in the Summer months). Our website is: http://www.greateccleston.org.uk an idea for an unusual and superb place to stay is: http://www.guysthatchedhamlet.co.uk/ about 4 miles from our ground.
Let me know if you want a game, we can play any midweek day. And if you are already sorted, have a great time, sure you will!!
Thanks Ian for the kind offer but we currently have pencilled in our itinerary out of manchester
july 2 arrive ex sydney july 3 westleigh cc july 4 tourist day july 5 earby cc july 6 marple cc july 7 england v oz @ headingley,Leeds july 8 grimsargh cc july 9 manchester -notts.
the thatched hamlet accommodation looks great but with the aussie dollar we will be in a manchester doss house and travelling to fixtures by coach.
Some of the tourists might "kick on" in Blackpool the day we play Grimsargh.
Bravo Lummas has moved on to greener pastures at the northshore cricket club.
Lummas and the neighbours mob are victorian...for the glorious northern beaches check out "home and away". Summer Bay is just up the coast from us.Sure beats Skegness where you take your hols.
Other News Jason Ferris (B1 player) has reportedly signed a contract with the Leigh Centurions rugby league club for next year.We will be just down the road at the westleigh cc on july 3.Rex Mossop played 4 seasons with Leigh in the 50's after he turned to rugby league.
I would think some of us would be aiming to attend a Leigh game that weekend.
Tour Group Meeting Nov. 10 7.30 pm Brookvale Hotel.
Jacko Clay Cross is actually in Derbyshire & it is a serious insult to say its in Notts (don't worry its a coal mining thing) Good to see Bravo has found you. Prepare to hate.
The meeting on Wednesday night was well attended and saw genuine enthusiasm for the tour concept.A draft budget and itinerary were discussed. We will be in England from July 2-22,2005 with 7 nights out of a Manchester base, 6 nights out of a Nottingham base and 7 nights out of London. We plan 13 fixtures in all.
Anyone who is in our club and considering the tour should clarify their thoughts quickly. We will be placing deposits on flights and accommodation in early december.
Mr Pedantic What I meant to say was that we are playing fixtures at Ashford and Clay Cross from our accommodation base in Nottingham.I would have thought the notts/derbys coal seams were one and the same.
Incidentally it would appear local cricketer Jon Moss (now playing with victoria) is contracted to the Derbyshire County side next year. he has a herculean task to lift Derbyshire off the bottom of the County championship.
Congrats to Mr Bravo (Clay Cross CC) on the production of another pom.
Mate i'm sure we'll find something to do if we suffer the odd washout! Obviously it'll have to be indoors (say a PUB) to avoid the rain and involve some kind of weight (say a PINT) being regularly lifted with the bowling arm...
Anyway good to hear you're scoring some runs, I'll see if i can find a few "silver bullets" to stash in the kit for ya mate!
And like John says, keep an eye out for Lords Test tix for us.
Jacko thanks for update on Lummas. Sprog no.2 doing well thanks. For ref if you bump into any ex miners whilst over here its best not to mention that you think notts and derbys miners are all the same. During the the big strike in the 80's the notts miners went back to work at their pits while the derbys ones stayed out. Bit of a sore point even today even though we have bugger all mines left in this country. For ref see fillm Billy Elliot about how miners feel about 'scabs'.
Thanks for the info on home and away. I'll be sure to slip it into the conversation the next time I'm snogging Natalie Imbrulia.
As far as Skegness and Blackpool go regarding holiday resorts in the UK the only thing I would send to either of them would be my sewage. Devon is gods country.
Have passed your details on to a few of my colleagues seeing as no one from the cross seems to have the intelligence or bottle to come on to your website.
Thats all for now except to say looking forward to positng again next week after team GB has beaten your mob again in Gillete (all a man can get) Mach 2 Rugby bulldog championships this weekend.
English first class fixtures are out for 2005. Games of relevance to the tour....
July 2 Triangular final Lords (Aust v Bangladesh?) July 3 20/20 Lancashire v Durham Old Trafford July 7 Aust v England Headingley July 8,9,10,11 Notts v Glamorgan Trent Bridge July 10 Aust v Eng. Lords July 12 Aust v Eng Oval July 15.16.17 Aust v County (prob. Sussex) July 17 Middlesex v Gloucs Lords July 17 Surrey v Derbys Oval July 21,22,23,24 Aust v Eng Lords 1st test.
Would'nt bother with the July 17 fixture between Derbys and Surrey unless you only have a morning to kill. Am surprised you have'nt got Derby's on your intinerary as I reckon youd probably give em a good game.
PS - I know football (the proper game not the Aussie one where the object of the game seems to be to physically maim the opposition) is not the main sport over there. But have you ever heard of a player called David Tarka? He's a full back who 'plays' for Nottingham Forest. I must assume he is not very good as we are cr*p and yet he can't get into the side.
Oh Thatcher has changed her name to anonymous. I thought you'd be over in S Africa looking after your little boy & seeing if the locals there could be paid off as well
See Jacko one innocent comment about Notts and Derbys miners and this is what you get.
Just recently one miner killed another with a cross bow due to an ongoing dispute from the strike 20+ years ago.
In the words of Basil Faulty ' don't mention the war. I did once but I think I got away with it.'
Note to southern nancy's who don't understand all this talk about coal. It is the stuff used to generate the electricity which powers your curling tongues and gay cappucino makers.
Hello from glorious Clay Cross where we have a covering of snow to help juice up the wicket for when you bowl at Bravo.I have put some of the snow in the fridge to place short of a length when he goes in to "bat". Keep away from coal & this board could again become semi civilised. See you are playing Marple which is the scene of my first ever seior game when I was 13. Wont tell you the year it happened though.
Have you cleared it with Rich that I will get a bat Chief. I should be in good nick seeing as I will have last seasons flukes to fall back on due to only batting 5 times. That after scoring an unbeaten ton in the Oranjeboom Cup final the year before! Still I hear the 3rds need some players.
With ref to the snow are my winter cabbages ok? I planted them in front of the Danesmoor sight screens.
Note to Aussies can I go on the Edwinstowe leg of the tour as it sounds very nice. I think you should play that match in fancy dress as Robin Hood and his merry men. I could bring a lovely painting from the Clay Cross miners welfare of colliery emblems and crests entiled 'Closed by the Tories'.
See you are enjoying a freindly series with your next door neighbours. Nice to see Shane back all be it a bit heavier since he stopped taking the pills.
You may have heard there is a UK tv show taking place in the Aussie outback called I'm (not) a Celebrity get me out of here. Seeing as these people are 3rd raters and wannabes please feel free to release a few dingo's on em or place a few red back spiders in the dunny.
Get in the que planty we have plenty of fat sloggers at the Cross already. One more is more than welcome though as it means one less place in the side for any lady boys like mad dog, hutch or Greabo.
I'm a member of Knebworth Park Cricket Club, Hertfordshire. Great news that your going to play us, its a really nice place. I'm also coming over to Aus to play for you guys, so I better not offend any one.
KPCC play in the grounds of a country house.
However, Knebworth Parks most famous attractions are its rock concerts. Sadly the most recent 'artist' to headline here was Robbie Williams, but going back in time the quality gets distinctly better. To list a few of those even I've heard of (I'm only 18 - most of these are from before I was born), Led Zepplin, Pick Floyd, Monty Python (apparently), The Rolling Stones, Queen, Deep Purple, Elton John, Oasis, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Status Quo
Anyway, needless to say its quite cool playing cricket next to where all these legends (perhaps? - famous anyway) performed. It is also a pretty ground. There are two pitches with trees around the edge, and you can see the House in the background.
Probably more important is the clubhouse, or more precisely the bar. We have our own bar at the club, open before, during and after play (and other times as well). If that isn't enough for you, there are two pubs in Knebworth (one in Old Knebworth, one in Knebworth.)
The cricket at KPCC is of all levels. The 1st XI won Saracens Hertfordshire League Division One, while the 2nds won Division 3 and the 5ths got promoted from division 11. It is a big club - we have 6 league sides on a Saturday and 3/4 sides out on a Sunday. We also have a very large youth set-up (of which I'm a product). However, despite being a big club, it is also a friendly club, and I'm sure that you will have a good day when you come.
I'll be seeing you soon (beginning of January), and I'm sure the club is looking forward to you coming over.
English rugby league fixtures (superleague...how I hate that word) are out for 2005. Of relevance to our tour....
July 2 Salford v Huddersfield July 3 Widnes v Warrington July 10 Huddersfield v Leigh Centurions July 17 Bradford v Leigh. July 22 Leigh v St Helens July 24 London v Hunddersfield.
Manly players (past and future) at those clubs include..
"Our own" Jason Ferris Leigh. Jamie Lyon St Helens Kevin McGuiness Salford
On June 12, Souths play Manly probably at Rabbitoh park (aka North Sydney Oval) It is likely we will have a net that morning and go to the game.
Jacko informs us you are booked into a nice pub in West Bridgeford for your Notts / Derbys leg. Just a couple of tips
1) stay south of the river as the Meadows is on the other side. You should only venture into the Meadows if A) you are trying to find your car (which will be a burned out shell by the time you find it) B) you are looking to buy cigarettes and such which are not commonly for sale at your everday news agents / tobacconist. C) you are wanting to donate your wallet to the various local youth schemes that operate after dark.
On the plus side you will be handy for Trent Bridge home of Notts and the other great sporting arena that is the City Ground home of the mighty reds (not so mighty at the moment due to the lack of a team).
Thanks for the advice Bravo....I notice looking at the football ladder that Forest are bottom of first and chesterfield well up in second. Does this mean chesterfield could take Forest's place in the first division?
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all readers. Only 6 months to go....flights are booked and we have 21 tickets to the headingley one dayer on July 7.
The poms look like beating south africa so it could be 1 v 2 in the ashes series.
Looks like we have big clash with the Manly Waratahs scheduled for Broadhalfpenny down on July 20.
All tourists should be at the 50th anniversary dinner on Feb 26 to be presented with their touring cap.
Seasons Greetings to all at CPCC from us at the Cross. In view of the fact that we are playing you all players are reporting for training on Christmas Day (apart of course for Bravo) THIS IS A LIE -EDIT. Bravo is looking forward to seeing your touring caps & has threatened to knock some off a few heads with the ball come July. Pictures of our Welsh overseas player are on our website now. Please take him back with you. Chief
At a recent commitee meeting it has been decided ot perform a ceremony in honour of the tourists. It will be the local Clay Cross version of the Maori Haka.
Approx 1/2 hour brfore the game a select group of local youths will break into and set fire to Dave Greaves Citroen 'boy racer' XTR at the Danesmoor end of the ground. At the end of the match the ashes of said car will be gatered into an urn and presented to the winning captain.
This event will be spiced up by applying the seat belt to Dave in the passenger seat and seeing if he can figure out how to unclip it and escape from the car in time.
Bravo I had been led to believe we were going to burn down that decrepit old grandstand of yours! From some of the things said about Clay Cross elsewhere this is going to be "no prisoners taken" fixture.
You wouldn't want to buy 21 tickets to a Bangladesh v England fixture would you? Perhaps we could burn them.
Oi Jacko I'll have you know that our pavillion is a listed building! Its on enviromental health lists for a start.
Nice to see the boys stuff the Suth Afrikaans today. Bring on the main course.
It also looks like South African net practice is as good as ours where you just try and rip the batsmans head off. I thought Graham Smith was popular with his players.
Instead of burning England Bangladesh tickets we could burn your passports cause after England beat the Aussies you won't be allowed back into Oz.
Looks like an easy ride for you boys at Clay Cross as Bravo failed to turn up for our first winter indoor practice & missed the severe fitness regime which saw many of the players being physically ill before retiring to the pub for a few pints followed by a curry. Bravo is obviously not taking you guys seriously!!! Chief
Jacko Never in doubt. A fridge full of Oranjeboom will be in your dressing room before the game.Castlemaine have just sponsored our league but I'm sure you would rather drink something different.(desperately trying not to upset league sponsors) SAVE NOLANS RESERVE Chief
Jacko Seen your blurb on sting & see you are asking about conditions in Clay Cross in July.Who knows might rain might not might even snow.Whatever the wicket will look green & then loads of runs will be scored on it as always. If it does rain we will go to Sheffield & play you at Ice Hockey as I'm sure you lot are really good at that. Promis there will be no xxxx.Sorry to have insulted you. Off to indoor nets now. Will Bravo turn up? Chief
Hello from deepest Greater Manchester / Cheshire. Marple CC are looking forward to hosting your tour squad on 6th June.
Just to let you know about ourselves, our first team play in the Cheshire Cricket League (Div 1) - which is the second tier of Cheshire Cricket. Up until the season before last we played in the Cheshire County League (the premier league in the area) but relegation put paid to that and although we rallied last season, we just missed out on promotion back to our rightful status! (hmmm)
Our second and third teams are also quite succesful coming 5th and 3rd in their respective divisions.
Marple is a large village / small town on the edge of Manchester and in the foothills of the beautiful peak district. Whilst our ground isn't perhaps going to be as picturesque as some you may visit its large, flat and fast (when its not underwater). Hopefully you will enjoy sunbathing on the balcony and also visiting our more touristy spots (canals, river valley, etc)
A mixture of seasoned and more youthful drinkers is currently being rustled up for our match and there is a building anticipation of a good days cricket and socialising amongst our chosen few. Feel free to drop in on our website... http://uk.geocities.com/marplecc
Chief, there's nothing wrong with a "sharpener" before the match. Maybe only a half pint but something to sharpen up the reflexes pre-match is fair play.. .and encouraged even! And nice to see we have international support to save our Nolans Reserve from a fate worse than death.
Jacko, i'm looking forward to a net and a few beers before the Souths v Manly clash... interested in a sly wager on the game after last years bout at Bear Park!?
And hey MR Bravo, are you on the same drugs as our Jacko??? If the poms win a test, we'll be selling Jacko's passport on the black market to a Paki who wants to immigrate from his native homeland in London to Australia (not Sydney!!) for talking your Ashes chances up so much! And if they are still alive in the series entering the last test he'll be speaking with cockney tongue and telling everyone he's the uncle of Andrew Strauss!!!
Congrats on your 50th anniversary from all at Clay Cross. Despite my nasty comments to Jacko on our own website we are really looking forward to playing your touring team on July 12 & are trying to ensure as many of our best players take a day off work(yes Jacko that does include our one man team Indian overseas player) Have a look at the message board on our website & see how well we are getting on with Jacko. Best Wishes Chief
Thanks chief... of course we will be inspecting passports prior to the game...in the ashes tradition only players eligible for england will be allowed to play.Is Bravo a pom?
Other News Channel 7 have got the rights for free to air broadcast of the one day cricket from england.Check us out on 7 on July 7 when we attend the one dayer australia v england at Headingley,Leeds, Yorkshire.
Another touring side have scraped together two touring squads...maybe we might cross paths in England..
Squad 1: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Shaun Tait, Shane Warne.
Squad 2: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson.
and Bravo...god you are an "a" grade smarta.... BTW how are notts forest doing this year?
Jacko - we are aiming to be trend setters by winning the old first division in all its guises. We have won it as the First Division, the Championship and next season League one.
Can't wait for the titanic struggles against Blackpool, Walsall and Oldham.
On a serious note you need to be afraid as I have just upped my training regime in time for your arrival in July. I am up to half a chocolate cake per sitting and this week I will commence altitude training by standing on a chair at the top of our stairs.
I can confirm that Bravo sits astride the bowling averages. However the words marathon & sprint do come to mind & I think it is his batting you need to fear with his straight(ish) sweep, cut over square leg & Danesmoor hook some of his more orthadox shots. Beware Bravo this year his chocolate cake diet is working well & he could be at his peak come July (don't get behind him in the tea row either as Mrs Else's chocolate cake will have gone well before you get there) Chief
Chief... the negotiatioms for arrangements for the Clay Cross fixture are underway....
We are prepared to let Mr Bhatt and his mate play on the day and we will put up with grumbly Mr Else as CCCC skipper but on one arrangement we will NOT bend...
Jacko don't worry will be burnt out come July as I usually never bowl April, May or June.
Tea proposal is fine with me as I am always at the back of the que. Please note however as usual I reserve the right to go into the tea room 10 minutes prior to the end of the innings and lick any cake / savoury I fancy. Word of warning avoid any food that looks like it has dribble on it ... ENJOY.
Just to let you know that i've been keeping an eye on Bravo at the various teas so far and his cake intake is on the up!!
On Saturday he managed to bowl one over before tea taking a wicket then chuck down 2 donuts and various other cakes and then bowling another 7 overs for no wickets!!! Maybe be an idea to let him eat himself out prior to our game.
Looking forward to meeting up prior to our game at Headingly on the 7th July. Just need to find a way of tracking you guys down!!
For more banter get to our website at www.claycrosscricketclub.co.uk
Col...can you put the clay cross site url up on the front page with marple and follow on.We better make sure our tourists see the "good ,bad and ugly" fixtures.
JonB...we are in Block D,rows w-z in the West stand.Looks like some ppl from the lancs fixtures will be coming over as well.We are trying to offload tix for England v Banghla on june 26 on uk ebay.
Jacko
Jon B/Chief/Bravo Is Mr Else really your fixture secretary and skipper on the day?
Not sure anyone has been appointed as Skipper as yet. My vote goes to Bravo to do it....although I think first team skipper Rich Greenhalgh is playing so may well be dragged into doing it!!
Not sure what you guys are planning for the 13th July but if i'm struggling any of you fancy turning out for my midweek league team?!!? 15 8 ball overs and basically score as many as you can!!
TO Tom Hemingway and anyone else from Knebworth Park CC who is reading this spot!
Firstly Tom, offend all you like, rip in mate, us aussies love a good natured sledge ...well, we do our best to keep it good natured anyway :)
My name is Pete Henriksen and all of us at Collaroy Plateau are much looking forward to the "KPCC v CPCC" clash. I won't be playing on the day but will be attending as "day official/manager" so will of course be required to learn the ins and outs of the place, esp this bar you mention. I'm stoked to hear the area is famous for rock music (and i am glad you put "artist" in those inverted commas when referring to Robbie Williams. The list of bands you name there Tom is most impressive. I'm a big rock fan and the only bastard in our touring squad with long hair so you won't miss me when we arrive. I look forward to seeing your ground and surrounds and feeling those rock festival vibes and oh, did i mention the bar!?!
You were questioning the the use of overseas players earlier in this thread for tour matches.
After reading the above post it is clear to me that you are tryig to sneak a Scandanvian overseas player onto your tour.
Obviously as Sweden is a great a cricketing nation as Canada this may not bother the purists but the sight of a long haired viking steaming to bowl at us pour little pommie b#stards seems a little unfair.
Shocking news. Bravo bowled only 2.2 overs today before breaking down with a damaged fatlock sorry fetlock. This puts his availability in doubt for thr game on 13/7. Intensive treatment by feeding him Mrs Else's chocolate cake at least twice a day may give him a 50/50 chance. A spokesman said "Bravo was just building up to maximum speed of 43 mph when he mysteriously pitched one in the batsmans half of the pitch for the first time in 8 seasons. This meant that his bowling arm came through far too quickly & his Blubber to Bone ratio was so disrupted that he tore the flabby area under his bum cheek. Reports of a broken fatatarsle are however incorrect. Clay Cross Veterinary Centre
He'll be better off raping the village and pillaging the women of Clay Cross. Not a pretty sight.
Don't listen to the above post I'll be ready for the 12th if I have to play in a splint.
When I told the skipper I had hurt my calf he threatened to report me to the RSPCA. In true pommie style hobbled off for some first aid which consisted of a ice cold can of Stella strapped to my leg as we had no ice. Then proceeded to field at slips for 30+ overs... nice.
Hey Boys At Clay Cross we had a plan to play a couple of Bangladeshi cricketers against you to give you a chance. After today we've now lowered our sites & old gits like me have been drafted in along with a couple from our under 14 squad' Forgot to ask as well. Do you want to play with a hard ball? Chief. (soon to be Chief in crash helmet I suspect)
Leave em alone chief the Bangladeshi's are tough oppostion. Almost as tough as the Oceana qualifying group for the world cup: The Cook Islands, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea.
Rumour has it that Holland fancy their chances and are trying to arrange a winter Tou down under.
Have a good journey over boys. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Cross on 12th. Are you going to beat Borders record for the number of tinnies in flight or are you waiting til you get here. Weather has been good here lately but getting worse to welcome you to England with drizzle, fog ,low cloud & temperatures around 10deg. Prepare for a culture shock. Chief Clay Cross CC
Final preparations are underway for your visit to the Cross and all looking good so far. Bravo is looking forward to it....its the first time he will have batted in ages!!
Also made it Headingley on Sunday for the Bangladesh game you had tickets for. Looks as though we have the same seats for July 7th in Block G just round a bit from you guys in Block D if I remember. You will be pleased to know its a decent view but more importantly you are closer to the bar than i am and also closer to the Pataks Curry bus for your lunch..fiver gets you rice, naan bread and a curry of your choice from the list...lines the stomach well for the beer!!!
Have a safe trip and see you next week. I'll be wearing my Clay Cross shirt!!
It's pissing down in Sydney so we're looking forward to balmy summer days and long evenings in the Mother Country.
Only the Nationwide union stopwork meeting tomorrow (coinciding with our plane's departure time from Mascot) can stop us now! Unless of course Mr Jackson leaves all the air tickets at home on Scotland Island!
We're going to look like a million bucks tomorrow at the airport! I suspect we better get the group photo then.
What a great day we had at Westleigh. We had a good, competitive game and a good drink too ! It was the best day that we've had for a good while. Thanks to all of the touring party for entering into the spirit of the day. It was a pleasure hosting you and everyone at Westleigh would like to wish you good luck for the rest of the tour.
G'day chaps..... congratulations on your first tour win. Marple were vanquished on a wet sloppy track with three overs to spare.
I knew I should have picked a stronger team... Match report on this link http://uk.geocities.com/marplecc/2005_Aussie_Tour_Day.htm
We would love to welcome you guys back anytime. All our lads enjoyed themselves greatly and we made a lot of new friends. Good luck for the rest of the tour... we enjoyed sptting you on Sky at Headingley!
Sorry to see the guys from Marple spitting on you.People there never used to do that when I lived there. We won't do that at the Cross as we are all gentlemen. Bravo warmed up for the big day on Tues by hitting the winning runs today with his famous reverse hook shot having already played his straight sweep back over the bowlers head.He is saving his spoon shot over the keeper for you guys & is promising a record time fifty. I pointed out however that you lot won't bowl underarm at him as that nice Trevor Chappell man is'nt touring this time.He has now gone very quiet & is threatening a sickie for Tuesday. Chief
Thanks to Robert Minnett for waking me up with a text message at 3'oclock in the morning, reporting on the slaughter that was taking place at Headingly(that's Hedley!). On an evening with little to cheer for, the absolute highlight was seeing that close-up of a jubilent young lad, beer in one hand, Aussie flag in the other, and the CPCC baggy cap being introduced to millions of viewers around the world. Almost brings a tear to your eye. The Did
Just to say that following all the bravado from Bravo & cheek from the Chief on here what a pleasure it was to meet everyone from CPCC in what goes down as a great day in our history. I hope your guys felt the same. Enjoy the rest of your tour & let the Oranjeboom be with you. Graham Dent Clay Cross Cricket Club
played against CPCC at Kimberley for TheFollowOn CC, great day, you aussies were a great set of lads and I even managed to score 41 runs! You were lucky I didn't bowl and couldn't go in the boat race cos I was driving!
All in all I loved it and I will certainly come and find Collaroy Plateau if I ever get to Australia!
Chief Assume you are all safely back home now & hope you enjoyed your trip as much as you appeared to.Really enjoyed yourcompany on a fabulous day which was only spoilt by you winning the boat race by a gnats widger because of a combination of the animal Bruce downing a pint in 2.1 seconds & the wimp Daz (The Great One) Parkin chundering during the proceedings. We are now in training for a rematch if possible at your place or if not by video conferencing. Hope the soft South was as kind to you as the grim hard North & that the beer was'nt too flat. Best Wishes from all at the mighty Cross
El Presidente Thanks Chief. Most of us have filtered back to OZ by now including Jacko who lingered around solely to attend 60 balls of day 4 of the test! At least plenty happened in those few balls.
I know I speak for the whole tour party when I say that we had the time of our life - beyond our wildest expectations. I just picked up my photos from the lab and they are brilliant. So much happened that I'd forgotten as much as I remembered (maybe that's a result of the beer!). You'll be pleased to know that Bruce & also Brendan continued their pint glass swallowing form until the end.
All our fixtures were quality. The guys in our squad who have toured before all agree that we have never experienced such a high level of warmth and hospitality from our hosts.
Keep an eye on the website. I hope to get all the tour results with photos updated asap.

Here you go Jacko, your message board
Hi guys, I'm just doing some preliminary tests
Thanks guys...hopefully this board will get some use.
who is going to moderate it once we start discussing CPCC,MWCA and god knows what else.
You obviously do need a moderator to keep a check on any crap and determine rules/norms ..obviously I'm not involved in the day to day running/membership of the club but you need some sort of an agreement terms of participation so that people don't start using it for their own personal agendas
So the plan is to link it to the CPCC site and we will pick up ppl from there?
The tour committee meeting planned for next Tuesday has beem moved to 6.45 pm at the Brookvale Hotel on Monday prior to the club committe meeting.
This post has been removed by a blog administrator.
G'day. The Bar here.
Looks like the site is working OK if you're posting in anonimity.
OK Bar...what's your roll out of the $A v GBP?
what factors drive it?
G'day guys, nice to see the CPCC finally implement another of my many hair-brained ideas.
How's the tour numbers looking at present ?? With just over 9 months left to make it all happen, I hope all of the guys who have made some sort of commitment to the tour follow through.
Forgot to mention, you had better get that banner on the homepage of the site changed. Seeing as the club isn't going to buy the rest of the graphics package from the web designer, he has emailed me asking to get it removed as it is still his intellectual property and it is being used without his permission.
Could someone oblige please ??
Don,t want to be anonymous but it won't let me join.
Anyway. Good to see your on board. Looking forward to meeting you all @ Clay Cross (Yes Mr Bhatt has re signed for next year)
Your right Aussie ICC victory (good to see you have a Care In The Community scheme in Aus as well rather than fill the mental homes)we don't seem popular at the moment but you know us Brits we love a loser which means we hate winners & this year we've been winners.
See you next year

Clay Cross Cricket Club
hey lads, pete here
not a bad idea this thing, especially the part about it being for "CPCC members"...
Come on Plateau in the 50th anniversary season! Let's enjoy it! And look out for my 50th year club song, it's starting to take shape.
Hey Chief
Only a few here would have any idea would have any idea about where Clay Cross is and its claim to fame (does it have any?)What about the tourist attractions?
Give us some background on the place and club...tell us about how your indian first class player won you a premiership.See if you can get some of these tourists back on your site.
Next thing they'll be asking why we are going there anyway.
Pete...you should know the favourite for the "50 not out" tour song is a revamp of "c'mon on aussie,c'mon"..
..c'mon plateau,c'mon...Henriksen's swatting tons"...
Hi
We'll see you next Summer.

"especially the part about it being for "CPCC members"..."
And how do you intend on maintaining some quality dialogue with the people from the English clubs then ????
a cricket field in sherwood forest sounds tremendous!
Combined with the cunning and ruthlessness of D Jardine
he was part of one of the few english teams to win the ashes in australia.
Jardine-Larwood
Brown-Tyson
Illingworth-Snow
Gatting-Small
are captain-fast bowler combinations who have done it.
Are Vaughan and Harmison in the same class?
Also on the Bradman show was Sam Loxton (1948 ashes tourist) .As it happens he is a client of a CPCC tourist.Hopefully he will be a patron of our "50 not out"tour.
Hi.
Cheers
Edwinstowe CC
Hi,
Congratulations from Earby CC to all at CPCC on reaching your 50th (well nearly), hope you can celebrate with style - on the cricket field!
Regards
John Heald
Earby CC, UK
Greetings John from Earby CC,
Whilst us Aussies prefer our beer cold and bubbly i'm sure most will brave a "courage ale" or two and a flat warm bitter straight from the pump!
As they say about old trafford
"if you can't see the pennines it is raining,
if you can see the pennines it is going to rain"
That being said when I was at old trafford for the ashes test in '97 it was a sunny day.I think it was Micheal Bevan's last test match and steve waugh got double hundreds in the match.
Two other manly waratah's who were there that day will be on our CPCC tour.
Pete...remember where you heard it
this will be the closest ashes series since 1972.
G'day gents,,,
Don't know if I have already sent something through as this is rather confusing.
Cheers
Craig Poppett
Nice to hear from you Craig.
Hi chaps,
Thanks for getting into contact regarding a friendly fixture against Grimsargh Cricket Club, near Preston in Lancashire. We'd be delighted to play you, so pencil us in. You might like to look at our website, wittily entitled -
http://www.intheteam.com/home/home.asp?ClubID=5740
IF you're looking for other fixtures nearby, try the links to other clubs on our home page. We've got a very attractive ground, and we're near the ribble valley, but we don't actually look over it.
I've played a few seasons in Australian club cricket - for Northbridge C.C. on the north shore and for the Sydney Windies cricket club in the east so I don't really believe that you want 'weak' opposition - if you do though, we're the club to play.
Please e mail karen30p@aol.com to keep in touch.
best wishes,
Nick Mallory Captain Grimsargh Cricket Club.

Jacko
Are'nt Grimsargh very polite then? At Clay Cross we are always polite. We don't know anything about Grimsargh but I am sure they might present us with a shaft of wit from over the Penines if we ever met them (or something like that)
The reason you are playing us is to have a tough game after you have massacred the soft southern chinless public school nancy boys from down south. Oh & some of you want to hurt the mighty Johnny Bravo.
Chief
Gidday ya crims.
Just to let you Johnny Bravo the pommie b#st#rd has found the website.
I have seen the post on the Clay Cross site asking how we can convince you boys to come over.
Hopefully my posts over the coming months will persuade you to make the trip provide HM finest will let you in the country.
Hows me long lost brother Lummas, well I hope.
Give my best to Kylie and Jason.
Hi
Cheers

Thanks Ian for the kind offer but we currently have pencilled in our itinerary out of manchester
july 2 arrive ex sydney
july 3 westleigh cc
july 4 tourist day
july 5 earby cc
july 6 marple cc
july 7 england v oz @ headingley,Leeds
july 8 grimsargh cc
july 9 manchester -notts.
the thatched hamlet accommodation looks great but with the aussie dollar we will be in a manchester doss house and travelling to fixtures by coach.
Some of the tourists might "kick on" in Blackpool the day we play Grimsargh.
Bravo
Lummas has moved on to greener pastures at the northshore cricket club.
Lummas and the neighbours mob are victorian...for the glorious northern beaches check out "home and away". Summer Bay is just up the coast from us.Sure beats Skegness where you take your hols.
Other News
Jason Ferris (B1 player) has reportedly signed a contract with the Leigh Centurions rugby league club for next year.We will be just down the road at the westleigh cc on july 3.Rex Mossop played 4 seasons with Leigh in the 50's after he turned to rugby league.
I would think some of us would be aiming to attend a Leigh game that weekend.
Tour Group Meeting Nov. 10 7.30 pm Brookvale Hotel.
Jacko
Clay Cross is actually in Derbyshire & it is a serious insult to say its in Notts (don't worry its a coal mining thing)
Good to see Bravo has found you. Prepare to hate.
Mr Pedantic
The meeting on Wednesday night was well attended and saw genuine enthusiasm for the tour concept.A draft budget and itinerary were discussed. We will be in England from July 2-22,2005 with 7 nights out of a Manchester base, 6 nights out of a Nottingham base and 7 nights out of London. We plan 13 fixtures in all.
Anyone who is in our club and considering the tour should clarify their thoughts quickly. We will be placing deposits on flights and accommodation in early december.
Mr Pedantic
What I meant to say was that we are playing fixtures at Ashford and Clay Cross from our accommodation base in Nottingham.I would have thought the notts/derbys coal seams were one and the same.
Its nothing to do with the coal but to do with the miners some of whom worked when they should'nt!!
Mr Pedantic
Poppa! Hendo here.
And like John says, keep an eye out for Lords Test tix for us.
cheers,
Pete
Johnny Bravo
Jacko thanks for update on Lummas. Sprog no.2 doing well thanks. For ref if you bump into any ex miners whilst over here its best not to mention that you think notts and derbys miners are all the same. During the the big strike in the 80's the notts miners went back to work at their pits while the derbys ones stayed out. Bit of a sore point even today even though we have bugger all mines left in this country. For ref see fillm Billy Elliot
about how miners feel about 'scabs'.
July 2 Triangular final Lords (Aust v Bangladesh?)
July 3 20/20 Lancashire v Durham Old Trafford
July 7 Aust v England Headingley
July 8,9,10,11 Notts v Glamorgan Trent Bridge
July 10 Aust v Eng. Lords
July 12 Aust v Eng Oval
July 15.16.17 Aust v County (prob. Sussex)
July 17 Middlesex v Gloucs Lords
July 17 Surrey v Derbys Oval
July 21,22,23,24 Aust v Eng Lords 1st test.
Johnny Bravo
Would'nt bother with the July 17 fixture between Derbys and Surrey unless you only have a morning to kill. Am surprised you have'nt got Derby's on your intinerary as I reckon youd probably give em a good game.
PS - I know football (the proper game not the Aussie one where the object of the game seems to be to physically maim the opposition) is not the main sport over there. But have you ever heard of a player called David Tarka? He's a full back who 'plays' for Nottingham Forest. I must assume he is not very good as we are cr*p and yet he can't get into the side.
Are you Derbys lot still on about the miners strike??
Look, you voted to strike, we voted to work. Therefore we were not scabs!
Oh Thatcher has changed her name to anonymous. I thought you'd be over in S Africa looking after your little boy & seeing if the locals there could be paid off as well
Arthur Scargill
Sorry anonymous you are right you weren't scabs just Tory boy lap dogs.
Hope you enjoy working at Mc Donalds for minimum wage.
Stuff the Aussie tour lets have a Notts against Derbys match.
Johnny Bravo
Chief
Johnny Bravo
G'day ya flamin galaars!
Strike me row!
Do you all talk like Alf Stewart then or what?
see we've got a scab debate going on here, moral of the story - don't trust anyone from Notts!
Hope you have a good tour, might see you at the Cross - may be playing there next season (if they'll have me!) Hey every team needs a fat slogger!
Laters
Planty
Johnny Bravo
Get in the que planty we have plenty of fat sloggers at the Cross already. One more is more than welcome though as it means one less place in the side for any lady boys like mad dog, hutch or Greabo.
Hi everyone,
I'm a member of Knebworth Park Cricket Club, Hertfordshire. Great news
that your going to play us, its a really nice place. I'm also coming over
to Aus to play for you guys, so I better not offend any one.
KPCC play in the grounds of a country house.
However, Knebworth Parks most famous attractions are its rock
concerts. Sadly the most recent 'artist' to headline here was Robbie
Williams, but going back in time the quality gets distinctly better. To
list a few of those even I've heard of (I'm only 18 - most of these are
from before I was born), Led Zepplin, Pick Floyd, Monty Python (apparently), The Rolling Stones, Queen,
Deep Purple, Elton John, Oasis, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Status Quo
Anyway, needless to say its quite cool playing cricket next to where all
these legends (perhaps? - famous anyway) performed. It is also a pretty
ground. There are two pitches with trees around the edge, and you can see the House in the background.
Probably more important is the clubhouse, or more precisely the bar. We
have our own bar at the club, open before, during and after play (and
other times as well). If that isn't enough for you, there are two pubs in
Knebworth (one in Old Knebworth, one in Knebworth.)
The cricket at KPCC is of all levels. The 1st XI won Saracens
Hertfordshire League Division One, while the 2nds won Division 3 and the
5ths got promoted from division 11. It is a big club - we have 6 league
sides on a Saturday and 3/4 sides out on a Sunday. We also have a very
large youth set-up (of which I'm a product). However, despite being a big
club, it is also a friendly club, and I'm sure that you will have a good
day when you come.
I'll be seeing you soon (beginning of January), and I'm sure the club is looking forward to you coming over.
Tom Hemingway
The MCC have now started a ballot system for tickets for the Lords test. Go to
http://www.lords.org/
and try your luck for two tickets.
Remember we have a scheduled fixture on day 1 of the test (july 21) and the "standard tour" leaves London on the friday night(july 22).
Remember also,we are planning to go as a group to the one dayer at Headingley Yorkshire on July 7.
I would think we should be trying for Friday july 22, in the Compton Stand Lower tier at 40 GBP (good god thats about A$100)
Jacko
English rugby league fixtures (superleague...how I hate that word) are out for 2005.
Of relevance to our tour....
July 2 Salford v Huddersfield
July 3 Widnes v Warrington
July 10 Huddersfield v Leigh Centurions
July 17 Bradford v Leigh.
July 22 Leigh v St Helens
July 24 London v Hunddersfield.
Manly players (past and future) at those clubs include..
"Our own" Jason Ferris Leigh.
Jamie Lyon St Helens
Kevin McGuiness Salford
On June 12, Souths play Manly probably at Rabbitoh park (aka North Sydney Oval) It is likely we will have a net that morning and go to the game.
Johnny Bravo
Jacko informs us you are booked into a nice pub in West Bridgeford for your Notts / Derbys leg. Just a couple of tips
1) stay south of the river as the Meadows is on the other side. You should only venture into the Meadows if
A) you are trying to find your car (which will be a burned out shell by the time you find it)
B) you are looking to buy cigarettes and such which are not commonly for sale at your everday news agents / tobacconist.
C) you are wanting to donate your wallet to the various local youth schemes that operate after dark.
On the plus side you will be handy for Trent Bridge home of Notts and the other great sporting arena that is the City Ground home of the mighty reds (not so mighty at the moment due to the lack of a team).
Anyway Merry Chrimbo
Chief
Johnny Bravo
Bravo
I had been led to believe we were going to burn down that decrepit old grandstand of yours!
From some of the things said about Clay Cross elsewhere this is going to be "no prisoners taken" fixture.
You wouldn't want to buy 21 tickets to a Bangladesh v England fixture would you? Perhaps we could burn them.
Jacko
Hi there chaps. Another Clay Crosser here who, for his sins, has had the pleasure of doing the website for the last few years.
In case you are interested you can see some pics from our ground at :-

Chief
Chief....
Bravo or no Bravo....
Pls confirm we are set for a "winner take all" match at Sharley Park, Clay Cross, Derbyshire on Tuesday July 12,2005.
Jacko
Jacko
Never in doubt. A fridge full of Oranjeboom will be in your dressing room before the game.Castlemaine have just sponsored our league but I'm sure you would rather drink something different.(desperately trying not to upset league sponsors)

Chief
Great!
We won't be touching that orangeboom till we have successfully defended the aussie winning tradition.
and we are not partial to XXXX...its queensland beer.
You know the only reason its called xxxx?
coz queenslanders can't spell beer.
In any case,I suspect both brands are distributed by interbrew in the uk.
Thanks for your support on Nolans...we'll have a game there when you bring that Clay Cross team out here.
Jacko
ps have you seen our blurb at the follow on?
Jacko
Seen your blurb on sting & see you are asking about conditions in Clay Cross in July.Who knows might rain might not might even snow.Whatever the wicket will look green & then loads of runs will be scored on it as always.
If it does rain we will go to Sheffield & play you at Ice Hockey as I'm sure you lot are really good at that.
Promis there will be no xxxx.Sorry to have insulted you. Off to indoor nets now. Will Bravo turn up?
Chief
Johnny Bravo
Have fun at nets chief, doing my training at home. Havent even got my kit out of the attic yet. Wake me up around May if its warm.
Preparing for the Aussies by polishing of a bottle of Jacobs Creek, moving on to a bottle of Wolf Blass and then stepping up to Hardys Stamp.
Got my Shane Warne fitness video and pills and will be fit raring to go come July.
Andy B - Marple CC
Andy
Thanks Andy
See you at Marple CC on July 6. Hope the day is as sunny as your front page pic.
Put us down for a team in your trivia quiz that night.Better have a few aussie questions to give us a chance.
Kacko
Gday gents, Pete here
Chief, there's nothing wrong with a "sharpener" before the match.
There will be a meeting of the tour group at the Brookvale Hotel on Feb 17 (Thursday) at 7.30 pm.
Well Pete...I've been tipping this to be the closest ashes series since 1972. (that wouldn't be hard)
and I'm tipping souths to edge out Manly for the wooden spoon this year.Could be a big clash in early June at NSO.
But whatever happens...I just hope the Lords test goes to 5 days so I can queue and get a ticket.
Or maybe you can lean on your mate Strauss from Mosman days to get us in!
Congrats on your 50th anniversary from all at Clay Cross. Despite my nasty comments to Jacko on our own website we are really looking forward to playing your touring team on July 12 & are trying to ensure as many of our best players take a day off work(yes Jacko that does include our one man team Indian overseas player)
Have a look at the message board on our website & see how well we are getting on with Jacko.
Best Wishes
Chief
Thanks chief...
of course we will be inspecting passports prior to the game...in the ashes tradition only players eligible for england will be allowed to play.Is Bravo a pom?
Other News
Channel 7 have got the rights for free to air broadcast of the one day cricket from england.Check us out on 7 on July 7 when we attend the one dayer australia v england at Headingley,Leeds, Yorkshire.

Johnny Bravo
Sorry Jacko but I can't make it. I have enough trouble getting to Clay Cross meetings.
Another touring side have scraped together two touring squads...maybe we might cross paths in England..
Squad 1: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Shaun Tait, Shane Warne.
Squad 2: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Michael Hussey, Michael Kasprowicz, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson.

Jacko
Johnny Bravo
Jacko - we are aiming to be trend setters by winning the old first division in all its guises. We have won it as the First Division, the Championship and next season League one.
Can't wait for the titanic struggles against Blackpool, Walsall and Oldham.
On a serious note you need to be afraid as I have just upped my training regime in time for your arrival in July. I am up to half a chocolate cake per sitting and this week I will commence altitude training by standing on a chair at the top of our stairs.
Tour group meeting Monday 16th May at 7.30 pm at the Brookvale Hotel.
Practice nets every tuesday at the SCG indoor nets at 7.00 pm.
Our host clubs have started their season and have confirmed our fixture.
Our regular correspondent J Bravo is leading the bowling averages in div 2 of the Derbyshire County Cricket League.Maybe he is not all talk.
Jacko
I can confirm that Bravo sits astride the bowling averages. However the words marathon & sprint do come to mind & I think it is his batting you need to fear with his straight(ish) sweep, cut over square leg & Danesmoor hook some of his more orthadox shots.
Beware Bravo this year his chocolate cake diet is working well & he could be at his peak come July (don't get behind him in the tea row either as Mrs Else's chocolate cake will have gone well before you get there)
Chief
Chief...
the negotiatioms for arrangements for the Clay Cross fixture are underway....
We are prepared to let Mr Bhatt and his mate play on the day and we will put up with grumbly Mr Else as CCCC skipper but on one arrangement we will NOT bend...
Mr Bavo is LAST in the queue for tea.
Johnny Bravo
Jacko don't worry will be burnt out come July as I usually never bowl April, May or June.
Tea proposal is fine with me as I am always at the back of the que. Please note however as usual I reserve the right to go into the tea room 10 minutes prior to the end of the innings and lick any cake / savoury I fancy. Word of warning avoid any food that looks like it has dribble on it ... ENJOY.
JonB here!!
Johnny Bravo
Yeah righto Branno like a bunch of pissed shy retiring aussies are going to be hard to spot.
Jacko have posted some Oz terms on ourwebsite please feel free to add any I have missed.
Chief
It's obvious Branno as paid up members of his fan club they'll all be wearing Johnny Bravo wigs & shades & carry surfboards.
Col...can you put the clay cross site url up on the front page with marple and follow on.We better make sure our tourists see the "good ,bad and ugly" fixtures.
JonB...we are in Block D,rows w-z in the West stand.Looks like some ppl from the lancs fixtures will be coming over as well.We are trying to offload tix for England
v Banghla on june 26 on uk ebay.
Jacko
Jon B/Chief/Bravo
Is Mr Else really your fixture secretary and skipper on the day?
Not sure anyone has been appointed as Skipper as yet. My vote goes to Bravo to do it....although I think first team skipper Rich Greenhalgh is playing so may well be dragged into doing it!!
Not sure what you guys are planning for the 13th July but if i'm struggling any of you fancy turning out for my midweek league team?!!? 15 8 ball overs and basically score as many as you can!!
Sorry that was me posting above!!

I look forward to seeing your ground and surrounds and feeling those rock festival vibes and oh, did i mention the bar!?!
cheers from the Plateau
Pete
Johnny Bravo
Hang on a minute Jacko.
You are on the money,Bravo..
Mr Henriksen is a good cricketer and of danish extraction. In fact Ole Mortensen approached him to go back and play for Denmark.
We are calling it the return of the vikings...Danelaw re established in Clay Cross as Henriksen rapes and pillages.
Johnny Bravo
He'll be better off raping the village and pillaging the women of Clay Cross. Not a pretty sight.
Don't listen to the above post I'll be ready for the 12th if I have to play in a splint.
When I told the skipper I had hurt my calf he threatened to report me to the RSPCA. In true pommie style hobbled off for some first aid which consisted of a ice cold can of Stella strapped to my leg as we had no ice. Then proceeded to field at slips for 30+ overs... nice.
Hey Boys
At Clay Cross we had a plan to play a couple of Bangladeshi cricketers against you to give you a chance. After today we've now lowered our sites & old gits like me have been drafted in along with a couple from our under 14 squad'
Forgot to ask as well. Do you want to play with a hard ball?
Chief. (soon to be Chief in crash helmet I suspect)
Just out of interest none of you guys had tickets for the series final did you!?!?
Would you be bothered about watching England v Bangladesh!?!?
Jon B
Johnny Bravo
Leave em alone chief the Bangladeshi's are tough oppostion. Almost as tough as the Oceana qualifying group for the world cup: The Cook Islands, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea.
Rumour has it that Holland fancy their chances and are trying to arrange a winter Tou down under.
Johnny Bravo
Runour has it boys, the hotel you are staying in at W Bridgford is haunted.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Afternoon chaps.
Chaps,
It's pissing down in Sydney so we're looking forward to balmy summer days and long evenings in the Mother Country.

I am wildly amused that Westleigh had an opener called Bernard Blood. Fantastic!
I know, Bernard is a silly name !!
He looks like Sergeant Slaughter off the american wrestling too !
G'day chaps..... congratulations on your first tour win. Marple were vanquished on a wet sloppy track with three overs to spare.
I knew I should have picked a stronger team... Match report on this link

Just to say that following all the bravado from Bravo & cheek from the Chief on here what a pleasure it was to meet everyone from CPCC in what goes down as a great day in our history. I hope your guys felt the same.

Our slow wicket probably saw us through, although your opening bat didn't seem to have too many problems with it!

Aye up lads
played against CPCC at Kimberley for TheFollowOn CC, great day, you aussies were a great set of lads and I even managed to score 41 runs! You were lucky I didn't bowl and couldn't go in the boat race cos I was driving!
All in all I loved it and I will certainly come and find Collaroy Plateau if I ever get to Australia!

Assume you are all safely back home now & hope you enjoyed your trip as much as you appeared to.Really enjoyed yourcompany on a fabulous day which was only spoilt by you winning the boat race by a gnats widger because of a combination of the animal Bruce downing a pint in 2.1 seconds & the wimp Daz (The Great One) Parkin chundering during the proceedings.
We are now in training for a rematch if possible at your place or if not by video conferencing.
Hope the soft South was as kind to you as the grim hard North & that the beer was'nt too flat.

Thanks Chief.
Many thanks again the Mighty Cross.

Glad to see you guys are back safely and enjoyed your trip.
Our game at Clay Cross was certainly a days cricket i'll not forget. Be good to see any pics that you guys have got from our game.
If any of you have them on PC email them to jon_branson@yahoo.co.uk and i'll try and put together some sort of gallery page from the game on our site.
All the best
Jon
